The massacre of Jerusalem (1099) 220 years

On 15 July 1099 succeeded the Christian army of the First Crusade take Jerusalem. The crusaders murdered almost every inhabitant of Jerusalem.

The Gesta Francorum - a contemporary Frankish document on the progress of the Crusade - reported (Book X, 38):

" you ... [our princes] prompted further that all Sarazenenleichen would also succeeded because of the terrible stench from the city, for almost the whole city was littered with dead bodies. The 14th July 1789 is considered the beginning of the French Revolution, during the day has more symbolic than real importance.

The storming of the Bastille prison in Paris, is a symbol for the general fury, and the success was due primarily to the fact that few prisoners, and therefore a weak guard force was present.
